On the afternoon of 26 September 2020, Smile Charity Foundation together with the U-hearts foundation, held a cheque handover ceremony at the New Home Kowloon West Service Office in Sham Shui Po. They distributed lucky bags to the elderlies living alone for low-income families and Fu Cheong Estate in Sham Shui Po and sent their Mid-Autumn Festival wishes.
Mr. Ng Yu, Chairman of Smile Charity Foundation, Ms. Gao Min, Honorary Consultant of the U-hearts Foundation, Mr. Liang Bingjian, Director of Kowloon West Service Office of New Home Association and Ms. YY Wong, Chairman of the U-hearts Foundation attended the event.
At the ceremony, Mr. Liang Bingjian, Director of New Homes Association, thanked Smile Charity Foundation and U-hearts Foundation for their continuous care and donation of materials to low-income families. Ms. YY Wong, chairwoman of the U-hearts Foundation, said that the U-hearts Foundation focus on youth development, education aid and school building in mountainous areas. Over the years, they have participated in hundreds of school building projects, and will continue to support the lives and studies of teenagers.
Then, Mr. Ng Yu, Chairman of Smile Charity Foundation, handed over the donation (1.2 million HKD) to the New Home Association, and received a thank you flag on behalf of Smile Charity Foundation. The parties took a group photo.
After the ceremony, the volunteers of the foundation distributed lucky bags to the low-income families who attended the event, while Mr. Ng Yu and Ms. YY Wong talked cordially with the parents of the students who received the computers.
The parent representative said: "Since we received the computer you donated, my child has been taking internet classes seriously every day, and she uses the computer to look up learning materials on her own after school, and now her academic performance has improved by leaps and bounds, and her personality has become more cheerful.”
Due to the pandemic, schools in many places are using online classes for teaching. When children from poor families are suffering because they do not have computers, Smile Charity Foundation sent 100 computers to the children's homes two months before the start of the school year.
"It is our responsibility and privilege as a company. Children's future is always our top priority." Mr. Ng Yu, Chairman of Smile Charity Foundation said.
Volunteers from Smile Charity Foundation then visited the elderlies who live alone in Fu Cheong Estate, Sham Shui Po. Volunteers asked the seniors’about their daily life and offered them care and warmth. The volunteers also gave the seniors a Mid-Autumn Festival bag each, which contains moon cakes, biscuits, rice noodles, daily necessities, etc. While Mid-Autumn Festival was approaching, the elderlies who live alone felt the warmth and comfort of family members under the warmth of the volunteers.
Mr. Ng Yu, Chairman of Smile Charity Foundation believes that it is the due social responsibility of enterprises to pay attention to social welfare and charity and convey humanistic care. It is hoped that this activity can help poor families and vulnerable groups in need of social support to overcome difficulties, and also represents a modest contribution to the promotion of charity culture.
