On July 5, 2020, Smile Charity Foundation and the U-hearts Foundation cooperated to carry out the "Children's Dream · Everyone Has Access to Computer" computer donation activity in To kwa wan, Hong Kong, to help online education and keep love in mind.
Recently, due to fluctuations of the pandemic, in order to better protect the safety of children, Hong Kong government adopted online teaching and suspended face-to-face teaching. Online classes have become a norm and is rising in popularity. Students' study cannot be delayed. In Hong Kong, there are still many children from grassroots families who do not have a computer at home. Given the current status of the outbreak, face-to-face teaching is yet to be commenced. Therefore, Smile Charity Foundation donated HKD100,000 to buy second-hand computer, and along with U-hearts Foundation, it is expected that 100 computers will be given out. This is hope to ensure that students from grassroot families can continue with their studies and thereby also sending love to these students.
This donation activity was led by volunteers from Smile Charity Foundation. Volunteers were divided into 10 groups and they visited the grass root families at their home. The donation targeted were children from low-income families in To Kwa Wan. Due to the large number of computers distributed, the number of volunteers participating in the event increased. During the home visit, the volunteer team asked children about their life and study, talked about their dreams, learned about their interest in learning, taught them the understanding and basic use of computers in a warm and pleasant communication atmosphere, and provided them with care and warmth. The families who have been helped express their heartfelt thanks to Smile Charity Foundation. The innocent smiles on the children's faces also allowed the volunteers to feel students’ excitement and demand for computers.
To support a seedling is to embrace the light of spring. Smile Charity Foundation will continue to pay attention to the growth of children and young people, and will do its best to fulfill its social responsibility by working together. In the future, Smile Charity Foundation will continue to take practical actions to fully support the prevention and control of the pandemic and contribute to the development of education through online education.
U-hearts foundation is a partner of Smile Charity Foundation partners, and it focuses on youth development, student sponsorships in rural areas and school constructions, for many years, and have funded as many as 3000 high school students benefit and tens of thousands of children. The founding ideas of U-hearts are in conformity with that of Smile Charity Foundation's which eventually lead to this cooperation.
